Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION –  Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist

Objective - Apply and develop modern statistical and optimization techniques to improve business processes within the enterprise to assist the company in achieving the ultimate objective of becoming a 'Preictive Enterprise'.

Experience -

• 5 - 15 years’ experience in applying statistical analysis and model development techniques and/or optimization techniques (mathematical programming and automated planning) to solve industry and/or scientific problems.
• Analytics team management experience would be a great add-on.
• Prior experience at a leading organization known for analytics innovations desirable.

Academic Qualification - Postgraduate degree from a reputable university in one of the following areas: machine learning, artificial intelligence, physics, economics, applied mathematics, and related areas. PhD degree desirable.

Role Responsibilities -

• Partner with business sponsors and business analysts to understand business requirements and pain points; identify analytics use cases and opportunities; and develop innovative solutions to address identified analytics opportunities.
• Manage analytics teams to achieve prioritized goals.
• Propagate the use of data-driven analytical approaches to decision making through different educational and evangelization activities.
• Work with the academic and business communities to develop new techniques and contribute to research in the area of business intelligence and analytics on large databases.

Primary Skills  

• A proven passion for generating insights from data.
• Familiarity with global trends in data growth, open-source platforms, and public data sets.
• Good people and technical management skills.
• Strong knowledge of advanced analytics methods, particularly in the areas of statistical modeling and optimisation.  
• Good practical knowledge of a variety of statistical languages and platforms, including R, SAS, Matlab, and/or Mahout.
• Familiarity with visualization software and techniques.  
• Strong business orientation, with an ability to select the appropriate complex quantitative methodologies in response to specific business goals/problems. 

Desired Skills & Experience

Secondary Skill -

• Excellent written, verbal, listening, and public - speaking skills.
• Experience working with (parallel) relational databases and distributed computing platforms like Hadoop using query interfaces like SQL and MapReduce.
• A team player who is excited by and motivated by hard technical challenges.
• Good programming skills.
• Prior exposure to multiple industries desirable.
• Prior experience in university-level teaching desirable.
• Track record of scientific publications in reputable academic journals and international research conferences desirable.
