Job Description The Solution Architect (SA), as part of the Continuing Solutions & Services Development (CSSD) Team, will work closely with colleagues across the Global Technology Solutions (GTS) organization to sustain and maintain VMwares Solutions Portfolio at the highest level for our Customers and Partners.

By using an-in depth knowledge of VMwares vCloud products and solutions, and collaborating with our Cloud Practice, Cloud Center of Excellence, Product Engineering, Global Support Services, Solutions Marketing and Partners, the Solution Architect will harvest, maintain, capture and create Intellectual Property (IP) to ensure VMwares Solutions Portfolio reflects the latest product updates and releases as well as integrates the latest best practices from across GTS, PSO, Partners and Customers.

In addition to extensive consulting experience, the Solution Architect will need in-depth knowledge of data center technologies & strategies, with special emphasis on how VMware's vCloud products contribute to the modern Cloud enabled datacenter. Using this experience, coupled with knowledge of VMwares broad portfolio of products & services, you will endeavor to create best-of-breed materials for use throughout the GTS, PSO and Partner communities.

Typical Tasks for the Solution Architect:

- Harvesting and Integrating Best Practices from various sources into the Solutions Portfolio

- Harvesting and Integrating relevant Product Revisions and Updates into the Solutions Portfolio

- Assisting with the gathering and analysis of metrics to gauge the health of items in the Solutions Portfolio

- Ensuring messaging changes from various internal groups are integrated

The success of the Solution Architect will be measured by an MBO program that is established and measured by his/her manager and respective Director.

Requirements:As a technical subject matter expert, the Solution Architect will be responsible for:

- Ensuring the Solutions Portfolio (deployment guides, best practices, sizing whitepapers and solution reference architectures) are technically sound, deliverable, competitive and representative of the latest knowledge in the application of technology to addressing our Customer's business issues.

- Maintaining deep technical knowledge of VMware's vCloud based products and integrating new update and solution capabilities into the Solutions Portfolio.

- Working collaboratively with VMware product and engineering organizations as well as recognized SME's during the development, launch and continuing refinement of VMware vCloud solutions.

Requirements:- At least 7+ years experience in professional services/alliances/solution engineering/consulting/technical sales with expertise in architecting and deploying virtualization solutions and rolling out new technology and solution initiatives.
- 6+ years of infrastructure architecture experience with significant depth around designing, implementing, and managing critical cross-functional integration projects in enterprise datacenters.
- Strong understanding of the Cloud Business Models, technical solution architectures and industry trends around Cloud Computing.
- Deep skills (VCP Certification a plus) in VMware virtualization and management products (vSphere, vCenter etc.) and solutions strongly desired.
- Prior experience working with partners on product integration and solution initiatives is desirable.
- Prior experience with IT Service Management processes, frameworks, and methodologies is desirable.
- Prior experience in addressing business and technical stakeholder requirements and translating these to appropriate solution architectures a must.
- The individual should have extensive architectural skills dealing with infrastructure solutions such as systems management and business continuity. Expert level knowledge of x86 operating systems, advanced networking, storage architectures and programming experience is desirable.
- Strong Technical Writing skills a must.
- Ability to hold conversations with developers/architects/engineers to extract their best practices.
- Ability to track multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a distributed team.
- Exposure and understanding of one or more of the following application areas is desirable:
- J2EE Architectures - 3-tier web architectures and web services
- ERP/CRM Architectures - SAP, Oracle eBusiness, Peoplesoft, Siebel
- Business Intelligence - Hyperion, SAS, Business Objects
- Databases - Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2
- Java, .Net, Springsource
- Strong understanding of virtualization and infrastructure solutions including servers, storage and network.
- Good Unix, Linux and/or Windows Operating System skills.
- Self starter.
- Detail oriented with good organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
- A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, related field or equivalent experience.
